Failed Leadership

I love to read "Mullings" authored by Rich Galen (http://www.mullings.com/.)

However, in his most recent issue (07-13-07) I have to fault Rich for one thing, he made a terrible mistake or assumption in the article when he asserted near the end, "He [Chertoff] is smart enough and experienced enough to understand that a phrase like "a kind of gut feeling" is not what America is looking for in a threat assessment."

Given Chertoff’s track record to date, I don’t believe he is either smart or experienced.

He is a bureaucrat who (a) has a definite self-interest in promoting fear as a form of job security and cover and (b) is way in over his head.

Not only does he have his own self-interest to look out for, he also has to cover Bush’s back to quickly deflect attention away from the failed immigration debacle (and the administration’s continued refusal to secure the border) and now change the subject with the Iraq debacle facing them straight on.

The Iraqi debate is a debacle because Bush is not exactly Patton on the issue. Oh we hear daily that he truly understands the problem, so what then is the problem? What is so hard to understand about being Commander-in-Chief?

If you are POTUS=CIC begin by telling the congress to shut their pie holes – the nation has had enough of your whining. Then bring in the ‘defectocrats’ (Republicans) who say they will vote against the strategy (the surge) and tell them in no uncertain terms that they will face strong conservative opposition, recruited by the POTUS=CIC (or local party) in the next election. But please no Karl Rover involvement in candidate selection or campaign.

AS POTUS=CIC - I’ll consult you [congress] on the operations as needed when you decide to grow up and face the realities of life. In a fight for our very survival, we don’t need spoiled brats and cowards running around the town square screaming and babbling about how to ‘fight’ a war (insure defeat).

General Patraeus is the man for the job and he is pursuing the correct strategy. If that strategy is not working we will adapt, improvise, over come! GenPatraeus and all the brave young men and women putting their lives on the line to protect you (the congress) and this nation can not operate on a policy of relativism in the field. Frankly, you [the congress] do not deserve the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard we have and I might just convene them for a meeting here in Washington to lobby you about their mission and the real danger facing this nation. Yes that is a threat.

As long as I am POTUS=CIC - This nation is going to pursue victory in Iraq and the war against terror. We will bring down the thunder and lightening on this criminal gang attempting to hold the world hostage to their cowardice ideology. We will pursue them wherever and whenever we find them, including Iran and Pakistan. If you vote against the surge, then I want each of you to know you are voting against the brave young men and women putting it all on the line – for you and this nation. The American people don’t like that. The American people did not vote for defeat when they unfortunately handed you the reigns of power in the congress. With your votes, you [the congress of the United States] are abandoning young men and women while they are still in the fields of fire, in their time of greatest need, and when this nation most needs its patriots to stand up.

What do we get instead? "I respect the other side, we can have honest debates and disagreements, I understand that." The Democrats and Republicans opposing the surge and the war are not being honest or respectful and, frankly, should be treated as such.

We are fed this garbled misspeak and platitudes. Bush is a lame duck, he has lost the war on the war just as he has lost his presidency.

He has lost because he is an accommodationist by nature, an expiator of the first order, unwilling to stand up to the thugs overrunning and, frankly, destroying what remaining credibility the congress might have had.

Which brings me back to Chertoff. It is a fact – related by reliable sources (friends of mine) in Washington – that the entire DHS [Department of Homeland Security] is in way over its head. The bureaucracy is massive and, well, too bureaucratic and cumbersome.

Many were calling for this man’s dismissal and resignation long before the immigration fight. He is an incompetent boob, but typical of the so-called ‘leadership’ in Washington.

Among classical extremists like myself, we have been calling for Chertoff’s head, not just because of the border debacle but his over all vision. The problem with his vision is, like his boss El Jorge, he lacks the ‘vision-thing,’ all together.

Chertoff does not inspire leadership – he is first and foremost a sycophant in pursuit of a career in ‘public service’ and to top it all off, just another petulant lawyer who sees too many sides to the issues of the day.

Chertoff lacks an internal, self-defining ideology other than that of a bureaucrat and that is the central problem. Like others who hold to Washington think, they lack any central core beliefs, except the ideology of the State.

This man should never have been handed the job (he had no prior executive experience) and he should now be fired.

If the congress really wants to help the nation, DHS should be dismantled and decentralized into workable components sharing a common database. Chertoff knows this as well as those within the bureaucracy, but he will not speak up on the issue because he cares more for his job and its power base and he does not want to offend its central architects the incompetent boobs in congress.

Anyone in Washington will tell you that DHS has too many responsibilities and it is quickly turning into a giant cluster (I’m sure you can fill in the blank).

Chertoff’s "gut" feelings speak more about his own intestinal fortitude, or lack thereof, than the threat to this nation. He is using his position and power to deflect rather than inform and this is a serious, but unfortunately just another in a long line of breaches in the credibility and integrity of this administration.

Peddling fear is not a political strategy given an administration that will NOT secure the border and stand up and fight the congress over the issues of the day.

Chertoff is under stress within the bureaucracy and from the public about his failed leadership as head of DHS, just as his boss. The use of one's position and power to purposely deflect attention and change the subject in a time of real and serious danger is shameful, especially when it is coming from an administration that will not stand up and fight the play ground bullies (congress) on the issues of the day. Calls for alerts and increased vigilance begin to ring hallow after a while; particularly, when the CIC will not fight for the American people or his beliefs anymore.

But hey job security is job one with people lacking any true vision or core beliefs.

There has been a concerted effort from the conservative side of the ledger to throw this guy over board - we have used the phone, fax and email campaign against him and he is no doubt, like his boss and congress - feeling the pressure.

It is time the bureaucrats and politicians in Washington feel the heat. We need to turn the tables on these people. Join the fight and start the restoration process – the process of restoring representative government through the power of your voice and written word, stand up, speak out, the times demand it!

THE END

Colossal Ignorance

the deepening crisis of live earth

Has there been a more egotistically based event based on a more subjective vision of order than what some watched on July 7, 2007.  Live Earth could have just as easily been renamed the international convention for the unintelligent (the National Ignorance Party - NIP).

I confess I made it a point to watch Algore speak just to see what the blimp (or is it Led Zeppelin) had to say. As I listened I did not learn anything, his litany, cadence and timing is unbearable; instead my mind began to wonder – wonder why this gasbag was on the stage at all.

I thought to myself why does anyone in this audience listen to this fool or believe him, except then I jolted myself back to reality and reminded myself that this was, after all, the National Ignorance Party.

Algore and Kennedy (ferret faced Robert Jr.) both could have done a lot more for the environment by just keeping their mouths shut.

As al Qaeda roast ten-and-eleven year old little boys alive and then serve their stuffed bodies on a platter to their families in Iraq, we are preoccupied in the west with two blathering fools of comfort – spoiled children - propagandizing about global warming.

As these two fed the audience a clap trap of socialist environmentalism and scapegoats (capitalism and consumers), the little boys of Iraq were being ‘served’ to their families in an attempt to ‘recruit’ (convince) their parents to support their cause of terrorism.

Could there be two more pretentiously ignorant, colossally stupid trust fund babies in the world?

Consider, here we have two bourgeoisie spoiled children spouting out a litany of brainwashed bloviations about something neither of them understand, except in the most cursory way. They are nothing more than subjectivist mouthpieces for something neither are qualified to speak.

These two gasbags emanating vapors of hot air lambasted the political class for their inaction on what both said was ‘the greatest issue and danger of our times’ – global warming and the environment, please!

This coming from two of greatest political insiders of our times. And while these two spoiled brats of comfort, privilege, and subjectivism spoke to the audience trying to recruit the unintelligent and uninformed to their cause; the little boys of Iraq are being systematically terrorized, murdered, filleted, stuffed, roasted, and served to their families as a means of recruiting support.

We in the west and the United States need to learn discernment when it comes to the important issues of our times. Evil does exist and it is currently stalking the little boys of Iraq and need I remind you - the little boys of America.

Standing across the great battlefield of life, evil is looking straight into our eyes, while our leadership can not and will not muster the courage to stare back in determined defiance, they break eye contact instead. Evil is calculating what we are going to do in the face of its actions and planning its next move.

Sadly, we are taking the minimalists approach, sacrificing our little boys and girls in the sands of Iraq for a population of spoiled children in this nation and in the West who do not care anymore.

This graphic juxtaposition between these two bloviators of privilege and comfort and the plight of the little boys of Iraq can not present us with a starker picture of our own expiation of these people or provide us with a more dramatic contrast between the unintelligent vision of order advocated by Gore-Kennedy and the realities of the world staring back at us.

There can be no greater contrast in seeing their unintelligent vision of order and its consequences, namely, the continuing degradation, depravity, debasement, and horrific results manifest in the roasted bodies of the little boys of Iraq. Consider the last minutes in the lives of those little boys of Iraq and then contrast that to the policy implications of the little boys of privilege in the west.

The little boys of Iraq and America are being sacrificed on the altar of the Gore-Kennedy types and their corrupt vision of order.

After watching these two morons and viewing a sampling of the audience of the National Ignorance Party, I took a few more minutes to see if there might be a counter to this stupidity. I rolled over to C-Span and came upon a symposium "Watergate and the Media.'

Sitting there was none other than Carl Bernstein. As I looked at him, I thought to myself that he was going to literally explode.

He looked like an over blown, uncomfortable balloon bouncing atop the seat of a chair. But my compassion could only go so far as I began to listen to this blathering fool – without doubt, the seventies most celebrated and greatest stenographer (along with Bobby Woodward).

Mr. Bernstein looked pained as he sat there, and after listening for a little while, it became all to apparent why, his look had to be the result of all that built up litany of gas bag rhetoric swelling from the last time some symposium of unintelligence actually considered this guy a serious journalists.

All in all, it was a total recall during those few minutes, a tour de force of the mentality that has infected the west and the United States of America and a reminder of why I watch less and less television or refuse to read anything these people write.

In those few minutes, I witnessed the romanticism of sixty’s militancy married to the artifice of mild, benevolent propaganda made palatable by the children of privilege and comfort in pursuit of a reactionary objective running totally counter to the realities of life.

It made me realize why Western civilization is in decline. We are in decline because Europe has long ago abdicated any leadership role in defense of our civilization and because the United States is in a growing crisis of confidence and conscience, falling to lead anymore on the important issues because we are unable to discern and form distinction.

The United States is becoming, slowly and incrementally, a nation preoccupied with the bloviations of the unintelligence who are absorbed with comfort and non-sense rather than realities (truth) that need to be addressed in this world.

The juxtaposition between the little boys of privilege and the little boys of Iraq make the point all too clear as to why this nation is in a deepening leadership crisis and why Western civilization is in decline.

The little boys of Iraq are calling out from the battlefield of life, from the furnaces of al Qaeda, and all our leadership can do, all our privileged class can do is ignore the screams of the little boys dismissing their lives as a sacrifice on the West’s altar of indulgence in non-sense.

Western man has become obsessed with the fragments of his own self-destruction, seeking out all matter of things to indulge himself, rather than take up the necessary toil needed to address the realities of our times.

As we indulge, evil is on the march.

A Pyrrhic Victory? Please

The Bush-McCain-Kennedy-MALDEF Immigration bill was defeated by a broad cross section of Americans. Whether one uses the Rasmussen poll or the senate vote, there is no other conclusion to be drawn except that a cross section of Americans were against this bill.

The Rasmussen poll showed no support for this bill among Republicans, Democrats or Independents. It did no win support among the old, the middle aged or the young. It did not win among Conservatives, Liberals or Moderates. It did not win support among any single race or ethnic group, including Hispanics. It did not win a majority with men or women.

Indeed, a break down of the Senate vote clearly shows that the opponents were far more bipartisan in their opposition than the proponents where in their support. So I am left to ask Ms. Linda Chavez, where is the great majority of Americans clamoring for the immigration bill?

She dismisses the ‘victory’ by Americans as Pyrrhic, that is a costly victory. Costly to whom? To Ms. Chavez who lost not only in terms of the legislation but her credibility as well? George W. Bush? Harry Reid? There was a costly defeat for all those spoiled children who carried water for this pig running around as serious legislation. Me thinks that Ms. Chavez is simple angry because so many turned on her.

The victory was clearly not a victory for conservatives; it was a victory for America as indicated by the polls and by the senate vote. Ms. Chavez is merely continuing the rhetorical propaganda tactics of blaming one class – the dark force of hate-filled conservatives – for the failure, a typical tool of the betrayed lover.

Despite her accusations, I do not know of any one popping champagne corks in celebration or engaging in gloating, what we are doing is working to solve the problem in a sensible way, unlike those who sought to force a secretive, backroom deal on the American people, like Ms. Chavez.

Our borders are no more secure today than they were yesterday because we have a president, an administration, and a congress unwilling to enforce the law and secure our border. The border would not be more secure today with the passage of this bill, it would have been actually less secure as larger numbers of illegals would have tried to get into the United States to beat the deadlines and qualify for legal residency. Neither Ms. Chavez nor any proponent can refute the truth that the ill-conceived bill extended full legal status (rights), legal residency status to every illegal whether they sought citizenship status or not at the moment the bill became law. That was the only section of the law that was guaranteed to work 100 percent. This is clearly amnesty, albeit under another name.

There is no denying that employers will continue to hire under the same old system today as yesterday, the same old failed system that would not have been fixed with some magic piece of paper. By their on admission, Basic Pilot, the database system currently in use is unreliable, a failure. The question is why are we still using it? It will take years to fix the database when more reliable systems exist in the marketplace. Employers who want to hire legal workers would not be any better off because they would have the same tools today or in the future under the defunct bill.

An illegal alien can present fake documents today when applying for work, just like they could yesterday. There was no way under the failed bill that this problem was ever going to be solved. There were already schemes afoot to subvert the requirements of the failed bill, an entire ring of forgers and counterfeiters were captured and they told the nation how they could and were planning to continue subverting the system, indeed, planning and counting on the new legislation to help their scheme.

Illegals presenting fake documents to secure employment have violated numerous laws and should be prosecuted and banned from this nation. Employers knowingly hiring illegal aliens should be fined and if violations continue, shut down. Employers should in their own interests make their employment process more rigorous, and many have already begun that change by doing criminal and credit checks which filters (blocks) false employment (of illegals). Additional bio medics should be used including DNA sampling, retinal scans and finger printing. Civil rights complaints would drop if the criterion changed for the employment process, as would the number of illegals hired falsely.

By Ms. Chavez’s own admission, the Basic Pilot database used to check employment eligibility is a failure, so scrap it and start a new database not based on social security numbers but actual citizenship and a bio medic system. It could start tomorrow with those illegals apprehended and inclusion of those in jails and prisons right now. Go to private companies that know what they are doing and allow them to run the system instead of the government. The social security card by itself has become worthless as any kind of criteria because of our failed leadership to address the problem years ago.

You enforce the employer sanctions very easily, you hire lots more border patrol agents, have special investigative units (undercover) that seek out these illegals by doing good police work. It is not hard to know which of these employers are violating the law; it just takes some will power and investigation skills.

The 12,000,000 to 20,000,000 are not living in the shadows, as Chavez and her allies like to lament. I see them every morning at Valero gassing up their landscaping trucks and lawnmowers; at the Home Deport looking for work with contractors; wrecking their vehicles and then disappearing without paying for the damages because they have no insurance; or driving drunk and killing Americans. Is that in the shadows?

Illegals will be just as uncooperative with law enforcement today as they were yesterday. The failed bill did not and would not have changed that truth one iota. Illegals have set up their own little colonias, living in a self –imposed apartheid seeking isolation because they know they have broken the law. In many cases they are openly hostile to the outside world, hostile to our culture and our society and many do not want to ‘come out of the shadows.’

Illegals will continue to not pay their way and the defunct senate bill would not have come close to having them pay their fair share of taxes or anything else. It is estimated by the congressional budget office this failed bill would have cost the American taxpayer conservatively $2.1 trillion over the next five years and the Heritage Foundation estimated it cost about $21,000 annually for every illegal currently in the nation. They have never paid their fair share. They are invaders, taking what they want and the problem is simply, we fail to make them pay.

In other words, the catastrophe created over the past twenty years under the leadership of people like Linda Chavez, G.H.W. Bush, B. Clinton, G.W. Bush and others, would have only continued under the ill-conceived bill defeated this past week.

However, despite the smears and propaganda by Chavez and others, what you will read on conservative blogs and hear on talk radio over the next few days and weeks ahead are ways to truly fix the system. The first myth and ploy employed by Chavez and other proponents is to try their best to paint a picture of their defeat at the hand of the dark forces of conservatism - those racists, xenophobic, hate-filled people over there. They did it! It is the NCLR-MALDEF stratagem. But as we have seen, that simply is a lie. Admittedly, Conservatives were a large part of the leadership on the issue, but in the end only a part of the broad cross-section of Americans opposing this bill. In fact, the only people interjecting these types of epitaphs into the debate and using them to smear their opposition was Chavez and her allies (a Marxist tactic). I have read much glee and congratulations on the blogs but all are serious about keeping their eyes on he ball, attacking the issue and providing a solution, unlike Ms. Chavez.

Unfortunately for Chavez and allies, the senate did listen to the people on this issue. For Chavez and the proponents to try and now spin their defeat in any other way is nothing more than sour grapes. As demonstrated above, the bill fell victim to a broad cross section of Americans: Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Men, Women, Conservatives, Liberals, Moderates, Old, Young, White, Black, Brown, Red, and Yellow.

And as a matter of fact, we conservatives as part of this broad cross section of Americans do intend to participate in the process further. We are formulating elements of a border security and immigration bill as I write this. After all, unless I am wrong that is one of our Constitutional rights. We do not need to be emboldened, as Ms. Chavez characterizes our behavior, to take actions, since over the past twenty years Ms. Chavez and her allies have accomplished nothing of substance on this issue. And now that the crisis has exploded, she and her allies parade around blaming everything and everybody but themselves for their collective incompetence. And I only add that as Americans, we can call for the deportation of the lawless as part of any action or policy suggestion, since when is that wrong in American to require that people follow the law, Ms. Chavez?

Ms. Chavez and her Chicken Little brigade then attempt to throw out another rhetorical piece of propaganda to scare the people. The liberals will carry the day because of our defeating the defunct bill.

Let me be straight on about this one, Ms. Chavez we are not hearing from the liberals because they are in the same stew as you RINOs. I hate to burst you bubble but there were no winners in Washington D.C. this past week among the ruling class except those who took a principled stand against a pork barrel project parading as an immigration bill, birthed in the backrooms of secrecy – is that how legislators are suppose to work Ms. Chavez?

Time is not on their side; it is not on the side of any politician after the blatant power play by the ruling class to push this piece of legislation down the throats of the American people. The actions of the past three weeks sound more like Mexico than the United States. The liberal socialists can wait all they want to, but if they try to force fed the American people something they do not want, the growing crisis of the state, which we are in, will explode.

There will not be bigger Democrat majorities in the House or the Senate and I do not believe there will be a Democrat in the White House, that malady is your opinion which I might add is inside the belt way think and as we have found out very, very wrong.

If Democrats control both houses, they will be of a far different make up than what you see today. Whether you want to believe it or not, there has been a very radical change, a sea change, based on the misbehavior of the ruling class over the past three weeks.

Ms. Chavez claims that the current laws on the books are inadequate and contradictory. They are just that her claim, her opinions and little else. I have read the major reform efforts of 1986, 1996 and 2006 and analyzed them. They are not contradictory or inadequate, what they lack is the will power by our government to take the necessary actions to secure the border, what we have is a leadership that is inadequate and contradictory creating confusion rather than confidence.

Ms. Chavez tells us that ‘if all illegal workers disappeared overnight, we’d be in a bind." I believe we are already in a bind, a crisis created by the likes of Ms. Chavez and her boss GWB. One they tried their best to cover up by passing an ill-conceived piece of legislation, and that is why they are mad.

We will not be in a bind for workers. That is simply another myth. There are willing workers out in the market place who can not find work because the wages and job opportunities have been summarily debased, just like currency. Illegals are not doing jobs that Americans won't do; they are doing jobs that they are used as a cheap substitute for American workers. The American worker has been debased by an artifice of cheap labor not reflective of any free market forces, but of the interventionism of the government allowing the invasion of cheap, mostly uneducated workers. The debasement of American labor is much like the debasement of the American dollar, the latter the victim of the printing presses and the former the victim of cheap Mexican labor allowed to invade this nation.

What needs to happen is enforcement of our immigration laws to bring order to the system so market forces can decide if we need immigrate labor from Mexico; but at present, it is not a market choice at all, it is a false choice resulting from a failed enforcement regime. Presently, we do not need 20,000,000 illegal workers in America. They are taking jobs from Americans - teenagers, entry level workers, low-skilled workers and others.

All of these things matter to Americans and Americans will solve the problem. We do not need the input of a sycophant like Chavez, any longer; who is predisposed to favor amnesty and a failed system over more realistic elements that address the issue in a responsible way. No one is counting their victory dollars or running victory lapse, no one is gloating. The real American majority wants their representative to listen and act accordingly. We do not want illegal aliens in our nation, taking jobs from our children, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, and older workers. What we want is an orderly process of legal immigration and perhaps, if the market demand is there, a temporary worker program.

What we do not want is a bunch of know-nothings like Linda Chavez and George W. Bush lecturing us on what we are to believe and what we are to do. We know what needs to be done and we will get it done by working hard and presenting a border security and immigration bill the real American majority will support.

Chavez, et. al., simply failed America over the past twenty years and as the crisis of illegal immigration grew, they tried to paste over it with a piece of paper that really didn’t make things any better and in many ways made them worse. They were pasting over twenty years of failure and now they are trying to make conservatives the bogeyman in their defeat.

That is simply a lie, another of Chavez’s rhetorical propaganda tactics - used when you are a betrayed lover.

The Ruled and the Ruler

This commentary is a continuation in the study of the current crisis – a crisis of confidence brought on by human action. It is an investigation into the praxeology of crisis, that is, how human action brought about the current crisis of confidence.

One of the first general theories encountered in the literature is that the ruled – the people – will select a ruler or class of rulers of high stature and virtue to deal with a national crisis. The underlying assumption is that this type of ruler will ably lead the nation through the crisis.

This idea is antithetical to the very concept of modern democracy. It flies in the face of the idea because in a modern democracy, we can no longer guarantee, as if we ever could, the election of the "best" man/woman to the job of ruler(s). What we do is elect to the position(s) of ruler is the person(s) ‘best’ at self-promotion (mostly demagoguery) based on their credentials, stands on the issues, and the demographic composition of the market they are contesting. In other words, the ruler in modern democracies are chosen (1) in well defined markets (districts); (2) periodically no matter the national situation; (3) based on their stand on the issues of the day; and (4) by employing well defined marketing schemes (campaign plans) maximizing self-promotion, organization, party affiliation, and targeting.

So we must conclude that the first general theory about the relationship between the ruled and the ruler makes a giant leap in logical realism. It presupposes foreknowledge of a crisis, during a pre-crisis period and based on this foreknowledge they make a rational choice by selecting (electing) a virtuous ruler(s) of high standing to lead them through the crisis. Four examples of presidents that might fit this general theory are Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Reagan.

However, the question becomes then, do the ruled elect a ruler(s) who defines the situation and deals with the coming crisis, as above, or do we simply elect a ruler who is then shaped by the situation and how he/she deals with it.

In the modern democracy, the former is the exception to the rule while the latter would be the general rule because of our periodic elections of the ruler(s). Once a crisis, despite one’s ability to foretell the crisis during the pre-crisis period, is upon a nation, the ruler(s) is generally already in place and if they can deal with the crisis, the ruled may vote the ruler(s) back into office in the next election cycle.

This situation presupposes a tenure of comfort and stability followed by the necessity for the ruler(s) to deal with the crisis, that is, a pre-crisis period followed by the crisis period. Examples of presidents that might fit this general theory are Wilson (WWI), Roosevelt (WWII), Carter (his economic crisis), and Bush II (9-11).

So, the relationship between the ruled and the ruler(s) is an important one determining (1) who will lead and (2) based on the ruler’s response to the crisis, how long they lead. The latter would speak volumes about the quality of that leadership.

The ruled may foretell the need for a strong ruler(s) and elect him to deal with, say the Carter economic crisis; or the ruler(s) may simply have to deal with crisis because they are the ones in charge at the time of the crisis, like George W. Bush.

In terms of the current political crisis, Bush II and the sitting congress bear full responsibility for failing to take the necessary actions to deal with the two seminal events of our times; namely, the pursuit of victory in the world war against terror and the defense of American sovereignty by enforcing border security and immigration laws.

It has been their inability to deal with these two events in a meaningful, cogent, and responsible way that has led to and defines the current political crisis. Instead of the rulers defining the crises, they are being defined by the situation and it is generally agreed that both sets of rulers (executive/legislative) have been contemptible.

In all fairness, each of the crises enjoyed long pre-crisis gestation periods where the sitting ruler(s) failed to enforce border security and immigration laws and failed to pursue a peace through strength and vigilance foreign policy. For example, during this pre-crisis period, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and all the sitting congresses bear full responsibility and complicity for failing to enforce border security and immigration laws and pursuing a peace through strength and vigilance foreign policy.

The republicrat congresses failed to hold the executive branch accountable on these issues and the executive branch did not go the extra mile to enforce them.

The two seminal events of our times did not magically appear from the pot smoke Clinton failed to inhale; rather they manifest themselves right in front of the nation’s eyes, incrementally rising to become the mountainous events they are today.

The state apparatus, which we have granted such enormous powers, failed us all, failing to take the necessary actions to deal with either issue over time. This failure to take actions grew into a catastrophic failure resulting in the crises.

There is simply no excuse for either of these events to have ever developed into the defining issues (crises) of our times. They became crises because our government failed to act when it should have. It failed to act because the congresses did not conduct adequate over site and accountability inventories and the executive branch and bureaucracies simply failed to do their jobs.

Certainly, it is possible to do ones job and something come out of left field to blind side you, things happen and things happen totally unexpected. However, these two events were meticulously documented by many in the private sector, think tanks, universities, and the media over the past twenty plus years. The American people watched, read and listened to the crises unfold, while our rulers did nothing.

Concerned citizens across the land told policy makers repeatedly about the emerging crises and what should and could be done to address the problem during the gestation stage.

All that can be said, is that the arrogance of power and egotism must have consumed the numerous administrations and congresses of the past twenty years, our so-called ruler(s) did essentially nothing or chose to follow the minimalist principle of bureaucracies – the minimum permissible.

Instead of a nation where words mean things because they are backed up with actions, we became a nation of words and empty threats. The war on terror was executed as a police/ prosecutorial matter and the border - well it was there.

What resulted was 9-11, and it can not be said often enough,

the tragedy of 9-11 represents a perverse disequilibrium point, the catastrophic intersection between the nation’s failure to enforce border security and immigration laws and pursue a peace through strength and vigilance foreign policy.

What is more horrific and alarming is the continuing failure of our rulers to clearly and unequivocally (1) pursue victory in Iraq and against terrorism world-wide and (2) defend the sovereignty of the United States by enforcing border security and immigration laws. The crises continue unabated and the nation marches into a deepening political crisis, while our political rulers continue to do nothing.

As a nation, we have arrived at this place and time of great danger because our rulers have failed to execute the laws of the land and their continuing failure foretells of more emanate prospects for more serious consequences in the future.

The Praxeology of Crisis

This commentary is about crisis. What we are discussing is (1) a definite period of time dominated by great danger and (2) with emanate prospects for more serious consequences in the future. Historically, the so-called experts have identified and analyzed two general types of crises: those associated with war and those associated with economic (business) depression. The current national crisis addressed is a hybrid – a crisis of government and by extension a crisis of leadership. In many ways, the current crisis is tied to both war and economics, but mostly, it is about a failed state, led by a failed leadership. The current crisis is the result of what Ludwig von Mises called 'human action,' our crisis of confidence, our moral crisis is the product of a sick, incompetent ruling class.

The current crisis might best be characterized as a government in anarchy - leaderless and rudderless. It is a multi-headed hydra wallowing about in the muck, each head striving to pull the leviathan in the direction it wants to go, but unable to do so. Each hydra head representing a political faction stretching and threatening to rip it apart. As a group, these countervailing heads represent perhaps the worse class of rulers ever to hold office simultaneously in the nation’s history. They are failing history and this great nation, but in the end, they are reflective of the disastrous fragmentation brought on by decades of political deterioration and corruption (rot) and the incessant, nihilistic debasement of our society and culture – the destruction of our national sentiment. This fragmentation represents the praxeology of crisis that has spiraled the nation into competing factions and groupings each led by dictators (fragmentors) obsessing about who will control the nation’s direction and how they will impose it on the people.

What it all boils down to is a general crisis of confidence in both the nation’s rulers and in our selves. Crisis is contagious, spreading like sin to infect the whole, if it is not checked or dealt with in a forthright manner. The nation is in a situation where the state and its rulers are divorced from the will of the ruled as never before. If we lived in a parliamentarian system and a referendum were held today, I dare say, the ruled would give the rulers a vote of no confidence, throwing them out. This lack of confidence is transparent of the nation’s rulers, they are leaders lacking in leadership ability, and as servants, utterly failing to serve.

The current crisis of confidence is the result of two developments dominating the American landscape. Over the past twenty years, the state, despite its powers to spend, regulate, and coerce, has failed miserably to – enforce our borders (sovereignty) and maintain a serious foreign policy (fighting the world war against terror).

In both of these areas, the nation’s ruling class has given us nothing short of a national catastrophe. This failure has fragmented the nation spinning it into the periphery of a giant political centrifuge. We are now in a state of near paralysis (crisis) pinned against the walls by the g-forces of political incompetence. Each set of rulers, representing their respective faction, obsess about taking the nation in one direction in pursuit of one set of policies prescriptions. Most all of their concerns are built around incumbency, patronage, and power, rather than the nation and the people. As these fragmentors pursue their policies, and those of the pressure groups pushing them, the people are one hundred and eighty degrees out of phase – on the opposite side of the centrifuge looking across at the shameful, incompetent behavior of their rulers.

The rulers are incapable of dealing with the crises in a way that meets with the desires of the American people because they have abandoned American sentiment for the sentiments of others. As a result of this paralysis of action and substitution of sentiments, we are left with a crisis of confidence. It seems that there is no end in site, no solutions, except to watch the crises grow worse.

Consider the crisis of sovereignty, the nation has been invaded by an untold number of unidentifiable illegals. These parasites cross our border with impunity to fed off the host, i.e., the American economy and taxpayer. Somewhere between twelve and twenty million invaders have entered the country illegally.

They are openly and, in some cases, defiantly violating our laws and national sovereignty (they have been compared to home invaders). They are taking what they want without giving back or caring to give back to the system they are taking advantage of. They remit most of their earnings back to their country of origin living as regimented Spartans in crowded apartment buildings and houses. They reject assimilation into American society and culture and in many cases are openly hostile to it. They are colonizing into ‘barrios’ based on a kind of self-imposed apartheid all across this nation. They have brought with them a crime spree, social ills, and medical problems to our nation with the associated costs to society and our culture. And in some cases, and most frightening, they seek the host’s destruction and/or balkanization.

Our ruling class has tolerated a kind of ‘third world imperialism,’ where the barbarians have been allowed to invade, pillage and plunder with no real resistance taking what they want and leaving the rest. This is clearly a serious crisis of great proportion dealing with economics, culture, morality, law, medicine, and society but our so-called rulers do not and are not treating it as such. They choose to give us platitudes and triteness, when we need leadership.

To them, it is little more than a grand marketing scheme with the ultimate purpose - the extension of legal residency (amnesty) as a reward for lawlessness. Our so-called rulers have given little or no forethought about the long-run impact this invasion will have on the nation, our culture, our centers of influence and authority, and our society. Like Nero, they watch the nation burn while they fail completely to identify or even discuss the real problem – the corrupt, bankrupt, socialist nations from whence the invaders come.

And consider the world war against terror, the nation is engaged in a life or death struggle. The barbarians are not at our door, they are in our house. Islamo-fascists will not fight us face-to-face, instead they pursue the ways of the coward employing Soviet style spitznak (guerilla/ Klan) and propaganda as their primary tactics with the overall stratagem of collapsing the West and particularly the United States with targeted strikes. Their aim is clear – they seek to break our will to fight and once they have broken that resistance line, the gates of hell will open.

This too is a serious crisis dealing with the very survival of this nation, but what of our so-called rulers? Too many believe it is little more than a bumper sticker and if only we would cut and run, the problem would miraculously disappear. Our rulers, at their best, think of our brave young men and women in uniform and their mission only as an after thought, which speaks volumes about their own mental capacity, intellectualism, and vision of order.

These are the two seminal events of our times. As we walk through this period of time, the landscape is dominated on either side by two mountainous crises threatening our very survival (the danger). The great problem - why we are locked into a national crisis of confidence is our rulers are failing the leadership test. They are failing because they do not fully comprehend the seriousness of these events and they are seemingly incapable of addressing them in a forthright manner.

The reason they can not deal forthrightly with the crises is because they have abandoned truth and reason choosing to build policy responses and compromises on unintelligent choice. Their central policy formulations are built on the impulse of reactionary equalitarianism seeking to use the mechanism of the state to force everyone (radical egalitarianism) and everything (multiculturalism) to be on the same level as a solution to all the world’s problems.

At the core of the crisis of confidence is the fact that our rulers have taken up the sentiments of everyone and everything else; elevated them above our own sentiments; and are now in the process of forcing through artifice alien-third world-barbarian sentiments on our culture and society.

By turning their backs on American sentiment, a process that has been underway for much too long, our rulers have been pursuing a furtive dismantlement of the filter (the visions of order) through which the American people have seen and judged the world for years.

Historically, American classical sentiment was forged through a heated partnership between reason, truth, true knowledge, and honor to define our intellect as a people and the culture and society we live in.

That is why the current crisis of confidence is so despicable, it marks a clear break with both our past and future. The current crisis is in essence a moral, intellectual, and political crisis of potentially nation dividing power. [Note: It is not too strong an assertion to claim that the current actions of the political class raise the real specter of civil war.]

What we are witnessing is another wave of assassinations being systematically carried out against the sentiments of the American people by a political class elected to supposedly represent our views – our sentiments – our vision of order. With this wave, what our esteemed rulers are doing is continuing an interventionist trend that has been in place for decades. The trend is the incremental dismantlement of American sentiment and its replacement with the sentiments (visions of order) of others. In the current crisis, the rulers are trying to force feed a kind of third world imperialism as a good for the nation.

In exchange for our votes, we are told we (1) do not understand the problems; (2) do not understand the intricacies required; (3) should defer full authority to the ruling class; and (4) accept their proposals as the only solutions to the crises. On top of this ‘deference,’ we are summarily ignored and smeared in a concerted campaign of immediacy and intimidation to isolate those who disagree with their solutions.

On the one hand, our rulers are trying to (1) reward barbarism and lawlessness for violating our sovereignty and (2) force the American taxpayer to bear the burden of an illegal invasion.

On the other, our rulers are willing to reward barbarism, lawlessness and terror by cutting and running from the fight in the Middle East peddling the idea that we (America) are the source of the problem.

To base policy formulations on such things as compassionate conservatism, estatism liberalism, political correctness, multiculturalism, and other such nonsense leaves much to be desired in a fight for our survival. They might make some feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but they don’t ameliorate the current crises facing this nation or the growing crisis of confidence internally.

Certainly there are factions within the ruling class who understand the unfolding events and seek to address them in a forthright manner. It is our duty to support and champion these leaders.

However, they are in a distinct minority. Unfortunately, for the nation, control of the state’s (executive and legislative) apparatus is in the firm hands of the unintelligent – respective factions hostile to defending our sovereignty, on the one hand, and hostile toward the pursuit of victory over terrorism, on the other.

The rulers of our nation are woefully out of touch, just consult any reliable poll. They do not understand the events of our times reflected in their inability to (1) act on them and (2) speak about them in an intelligent manner that satisfy a great majority of their fellow countrymen and women.

It is as if they are divorced from reality, perhaps lost in space, perhaps living in Wonderland with Alice, perhaps intellectually bankrupt, or, like royalty, they simply choose to ignore us.

Either way, the nation is in the early throws of a serious political crisis and that is why there are emanate prospects for more serious consequences down the road.

THE END
